SOCRATIC will run an Intensive and International Work Groups, Experts in Teamwork (EiT), by creating a “Social Innovation Village” inside the University NTNU in Norway, from 9 to 27 January 2017. The aim is to collaboratively identify and propose specific innovative solutions for achieving the desired Global Sustainability Goals, as defined by United Nations, thought ICT-enabled social innovation. To achieve its goals, this village will use SOCRATIC, a SOcial CReATive IntelligenCe Platform that fosters social innovation. This will be the first practical pilot experience to test the SOCRATIC tool to create and solve specific challenges in a Pilot Scenario.
The two main actors in an EiT Village will be the challenge owners and the students, who will propose digital solutions to these challenges. Students from NTNU will work together on creating social good through solutions based on ICT. The project is being led by Scientific and IT teachers Ilias Papas and Letizia Jaccheri at Trondheim NTNU Campus. Throughout the project participants will gain an understanding of the term social innovation, through the SOCRATIC process proposed, and how you can help change the lives of many by using collective intelligence. The Experts in Teams will develop Digital solutions, like creating a an app, with the aim to increase life quality for people with different challenges around the world. Eventually, 27 students joined the Experts in Teamwork experience, who had different backgrounds, including social sciences, computer science, engineering, medicine, architecture.
Together the participants will identify and produce specific solutions and implement disruptive ideas towards ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, SDG number 3. In this Social Innovation Village students will be given a set of tools and services to support the whole life cycle of their project.
• Students will be able to propose ideas and solutions, enhance others´ ideas, vote and select the most promising ones. They will also be able to manage the implementation of their proofs of concept, assigning tasks to collaborators.
• Students will be able to freely involve relevant third parties in the process, such as NGOs they collaborate with.
• External experts will be able to follow-up, evaluate and give feedback about the whole process.
How it works
The duration of this Experts in Teamwork experience is 15 days, on which the participants work together daily, intensively from 8.00 to 16.00. The students will receive the challenges on the day 2 of the village, they will have three days for ideation, and on the day 5 idea selection will be made. At this point, the use of the EP stops. The next 10 days the students will work outside the platform on making a prototype of their ideas.
On day 10 the students will present a progress report on the prototype to the challenge owners and the village supervisors, and receive feedback. The last five days the students will evaluate and assess their prototype. On day 15 the students will present the final prototype to the challenge owners, the beneficiaries, the supervisors and a group of experts. The final solutions will be showcased as Success Stories during the Second stage of the Platform at the end of 2017 and will have the chance to to become real digital products for Social Good.
